The Universidad Industrial de Santander, in its purpose of reaching the regions, created the Malaga branch in 1996, giving continuity to the social purpose that the Fundación Universitaria de García Rovira, Norte y Gutiérrez had been developing. In this way, it began work in accordance with the agreements established with the department of Santander and the University Foundation, to continue with the programs of Forestry Engineering, Animal Husbandry and Agricultural Business Administration, with their respective technological and professional cycle. The campus offers nine academic programs in the classroom education modality, the academic programs of Forestry Engineering and Animal Husbandry are developed entirely in Malaga (10 semesters) and the engineering, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Industrial, Chemical and Systems, start in Malaga (4 first semesters) and end in Bucaramanga (6 remaining semesters). The academic offer also includes seven academic programs in the distance education modality of the Institute of Regional Projection and Distance Education (IPRED) and new academic programs with regional relevance are being developed.
The UIS Malaga campus has a livestock and agroforestry conversion laboratory for soil analysis, bromatological and greenhouse gas analysis, two greenhouses for research, fodder production and forest reproduction, and scenarios for interdisciplinary practice and research.
Currently, at the UIS Malaga Campus, construction work is underway on the new University Park facilities that will impact not only Malaga, but also the province of Garcia Rovira in Santander, Norte and Gutierrez in Boyacá, and Pamplona, in Norte de Santander.
The new building for the UIS Malaga regional campus is located in the northern part of the urban area of the municipality and consists of the construction of a building with a total area of 16,416 square meters, consisting of seven functional and independent modules.
In addition, the building will have an auditorium with a capacity for 360 people, administrative areas, parking, classrooms, laboratories, computer rooms, a library, a veterinary clinic, a wood workshop, restrooms, university welfare areas, cafeterias, among other environments that will allow the community to have moments of recreation.
